Around fifty automobiles have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Cars, building surfaces and postboxes were marked, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they reported in a release.
Police report they were contacted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a resident noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored substance.
The substance had been placed in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Police then found many other marked vehicles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws banning the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement say early analysis suggest the fluid was most likely human blood.
"At present there remains no indication as to its origin; officials are currently not informed of any physical harm in association with the event," they commented.
Local authorities stated they were attempting "to solve the mystery" and have appealed to the public for information.
An important political figure said the incident rendered him without words and required to be solved rapidly.
"This incident strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reopens the pain of the far-right attack in 2020," he stated on a platform, mentioning the murder of nine individuals by a gunman focusing on individuals of migrant background in February 2020.
