Top Judicial Official the presiding justice said the move to detain the septuagenarian politician was a preventative measure after fresh information came to light.

This included seeking to disable his tracking device and a summons to a public vigil that could "allow for a chance to flee".

Judicial Records Show Flight Fears

In a filing authorising the detention, the magistrate said information from the facility tracking his home detention suggested the one-time head of state's aim to disable the electronic ankle bracelet to secure accomplishment in his flight.

This, it said, would be "facilitated by the disorder caused by the demonstration called by his child.

His child, Flávio, who serves as a legislator, called for a assembly of his supporters near the former president's residence to take place on Saturday evening.

The senator wrote on social media on the previous day: Will you battle for your homeland, or observe everything from your smartphone there on your settee? I urge you to struggle with us."

He said the gathering would be so supporters could seek divine intervention for his physical condition and for the restoration of democratic rule in our country."

Foreign Shelter Risks

The court filing highlights that the US embassy in the capital, Brasilia, is situated around approximately 13 kilometers from the former president's residence.

At the period, his attorneys called the decades-long sentence "absurdly excessive.

He was also barred from seeking elected position until 2060 - a decade minus two years after the completion of his term.

The former president called the trial a political persecution and said it was designed to prevent him competing in the 2026 national vote.
